Trooper Joseph Gearty 1961-1989
Auto/Tractor-trailer accident - 11/30/89
Trooper Joseph E. Gearty, 28, was born into a large Irish-Catholic family of ten in Massachusetts. He resided in Rumney, NH with his wife Debbie and son Matthew.
In the process of transporting a prisoner to Grafton County Jail with Trooper Gary Parker, their cruiser was hit by a truck hauling lumber. Both troopers and the prisoner died in the crash.
Trooper Gearty thoroughly enjoyed Irish folk music. It was also said that on night shifts he would sometimes listen to and memorize long Irish folk tunes in his cruiser.
Trooper Gearty is remembered by his family and those who he worked with as loving, caring, and dedicated to his job. Trooper Gearty is sorely missed.
