1 Motorcyclist Deceased, 2 Hurt After Crash

Troop F

CAMPTON, N.H. – A New York man is deceased following a crash involving several motorcycles this past weekend.

At approximately 4:41 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, State Troopers from the Troop F barracks were notified of a crash on Interstate 93 southbound near mile marker 87 in Campton. Troopers responded and found a group of three injured motorcyclists, along with three motorcycles resting on their sides.

According to witnesses and evidence obtained at the scene, a gust of wind caused one of the motorcyclists to go off the paved portion of the road onto gravel, before returning to the road and losing control. As the motorcycle crashed onto its side, the other two motorcyclists attempted evasive maneuvers to the right and laid down their motorcycles to avoid a collision.

The operator of the initial motorcycle that went off the road was transported to Concord Hospital for severe injuries and a second motorcyclist was transported to Speare Hospital for minor injuries. A third motorcyclist, identified as Anthony Caton, 41, of Round Lake, New York, was transported to Speare Hospital and later flown to Dartmouth Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Troop F was assisted by members of Troop D, the Campton Police Department, Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue, Waterville Valley Fire Department, and Plymouth Fire-Rescue. One lane was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was cleared by emergency personnel.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Jacob Thomas at (603) 369-2393 or Jacob.M.Thomas@DOS.NH.GOV.
