Bedford Sobriety Checkpoint

Lieutenant Bryan Trask, Commander of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks in Bedford, and Chief John Bryfonski, Chief of Police in Bedford, announce that during the week of September 2, 2019 State Troopers, Bedford Police Officers, and State Liquor Enforcement Personnel will conduct a Sobriety Checkpoint within the Bedford area.

Sobriety Checkpoints are an initiative approved by the NH Highway Safety Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which provides federal highway safety funds to support these initiatives.

Sobriety Checkpoints are also authorized by the Superior Court and are one of the most effective methods of deterring and apprehending impaired drivers. A review of records and statistics over the course of the last several years has shown that use of alcohol and/or drugs by individuals who operate motor vehicles has resulted in an alarming number of deaths and personal injury accidents. This checkpoint will be part of an on-going effort to maintain the safety of all motorists within Bedford and the surrounding communities.
