Boating Incident in Alton Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee

Alton, New Hampshire – On Sunday, June 12, 2022 at approximately 6:08 AM, New Hampshire State Police Communications received information regarding a 9-1-1 caller reporting a boater initially believed to be operating recklessly in Alton Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee. The vessel, a 14’ outboard open style fishing boat, was reported to have performed a couple of fast circles. Shortly, thereafter, it came to a stop and was adrift.

A Good Samaritan boater who was in the area approached the vessel and found the single occupant, an elderly male, unresponsive. The Good Samaritan called for help, flagged down first responders, and assisted in securing the boat.

The victim was transported to Concord Hospital – Laconia where he was pronounced deceased. He was identified as Donald Longhi, age 76, of Hooksett, NH. Responding agencies included New Hampshire State Police-Marine Patrol and Alton Fire Department.
