Box Truck Rollover, I-93 South, Salem, NH at exit 2
On Thursday September 10th, 2020, at approximately 1318 hours, Troopers from New Hampshire State Police Troop B and Troop G, along with Salem Fire, responded to a rollover crash involving a box truck in the area of the exit 2 South bound off ramp, on I-93 in Salem. On arrival, the truck was located on its side, occupying the two right travel lanes, next to the off ramp. Traffic was able to pass in the far left lane only.
Initial reports indicated that the box truck was traveling South bound when the operator lost control while trying slow down for traffic during heavy rain. The truck rolled on its side and blocked the 2 lanes of travel, and therefore required heavy duty towing trucks to upright the truck. No other vehicles were involved.
The operator of the box truck was identified as :
Eleuterio CONTRERAS TOVALINO
Age: 58
East Boston, MA
CONTRERAS TOVALINO sustained superficial injuries to his left arm and was treated on scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that CONTRERAS TOVALINO was traveling at an unreasonable speed for the weather conditions and the weight of the truck. This was the major contributing factor in this crash and was issued a summons for operating without a valid license (expired).
Anyone with additional information, is asked to contact TR. Timothy Repucci at 603-666-3333 or by email at Timothy.R.Repucci@dos.nh.gov.
Troop B Troopers were assisted at the scene by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit (Troop G) and the Salem Fire Department. Two lanes were closed for approximately one hour until the box truck was removed.
