Crash Involving Commercial Motor Vehicle

Greenland, New Hampshire – On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 11:33 PM, while on patrol, a trooper from New Hampshire State Police Troop A Barracks came across a tractor-trailer that had gone off the roadway in the area of mile marker 9.8 on Interstate 95 south, in the town of Greenland. The vehicle had sustained significant damage from striking numerous trees and other objects, as it came to final rest in the wood line. The vehicle, a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer, was driven by Jarvis E. Simpson, Age: 65, Turner, ME.

Members of the Troop G – Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit were requested to assist in the investigation. Ultimately, it was determined that Simpson fell asleep, drifted off the roadway onto the right shoulder, and awoke as the vehicle traveled down the embankment. Simpson was not injured in the crash.

The highway was limited to two lanes for several hours, as crews worked to safely remove the tractor-trailer from the scene. Simpson was cited for Operating a Commercial Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Fatigue. Members of Troop A and G were assisted by the Greenland Fire Department, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and National Wrecker.

Anyone who may have additional information, or witnessed the crash, is asked to contact Trooper Evan Puopolo at Evan.R.Puopolo@dos.nh.gov.
