Department Assist / DWI Arrest, Hampton Police Department

On Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at approximately 7:50 p.m., the New Hampshire State Police-Troop A received a request for assistance from Chief Richard Sawyer of the Hampton Police Department. Chief Sawyer requested that a Trooper respond to the Hampton Police Department to investigate a possible DWI incident involving a Hampton Police officer, who had arrived at the station for duty, and appeared to his co-workers to be intoxicated.

Patrol supervisor, Sergeant Joseph Ronchi, and Trooper Chris O'Toole responded to the Hampton Police Department and made contact with the officer, who was later identified as James Patton, age 58 of Hampton. Troopers conducted an investigation, and Patton was subsequently placed under arrest for DWI. He was processed and released on a summons to appear in the 10th Circuit, District Division Hampton, on August 22, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. Patton was charged with DWI.
