Driver Arrested After Rollover Crash Closes I-293
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Three people were taken to area hospitals following a rollover crash on Interstate 293.
Just before 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, State Troopers from the Troop B barracks responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-293 northbound near the Exit 5 Granite Street overpass.
While the crash remains under investigation, Troopers have gathered information from witnesses who indicated the driver was operating at dangerous speeds and swerving through traffic leading up to the crash. The involved vehicle, a BMW SUV, was traveling southbound when, according to witnesses, the driver lost control and went into the center median. The vehicle then rolled as it crossed over to the northbound side of I-293, where it slid on its roof across the highway.
The driver, identified as Barnaba Madol, 36, of Manchester, was partially thrown out of the sunroof of the BMW during the crash. Madol had to be freed from the vehicle by members of the Manchester Fire Department and was transported to the Elliott Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Two female passengers accompanying Madol at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries. They were transported to Catholic Medical Center for further evaluation.
Madol was found to be driving with a suspended license and summonsed to court later this summer. Additional charges may be forthcoming pending further investigation.
The crash closed all northbound lanes of the interstate for approximately one hour while emergency crews investigated the scene and removed the vehicle.
Anyone who has information about this crash and has not already talked with investigators should contact Trooper Francisco Vicente at (603) 223-4381 or Francisco.A.Vicente@dos.nh.gov.
