Driver Seriously Injured After Rollover Crash On Route 101

Troop A

CANDIA, N.H. – A Deerfield man was seriously hurt after an early morning rollover crash on Route 101.

At 12:56 a.m. today, Aug. 6, 2024, State Troopers assigned to the Troop A barracks responded to the Exit 3 onramp along Route 101 westbound in Candia for a report of a crash. Troopers arrived and found a vehicle down an embankment on the right side of the onramp. Troopers were able to get down to the vehicle, where they found the driver and lone occupant had been thrown from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined a 2006 Honda Element, driven by Matthew C. Cresswell, 41, of Deerfield, had been traveling on the onramp toward Route 101 westbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, Cresswell lost control of the Honda, resulting in the Honda departing the right side of the road, traveling down an embankment and overturning multiple times before eventually striking a tree, ultimately coming to rest in an upright position approximately 30 feet from the onramp.

Cresswell was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

While Troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel conducted an extensive effort to remove the involved Honda, part of the Exit 3 onramp was impacted for approximately three hours before the scene was ultimately cleared at 4:06 a.m. Multiple agencies assisted members of Troop A, including Troopers from the Troop B barracks and the State Police Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Unit, along with members of the Auburn Police Department, Candia Fire Department, the Auburn Fire Department and Morgan’s Towing & Repair.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation by Trooper Jacob Benjamin of the Troop A barracks. Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Benjamin via email at Jacob.A.Benjamin@DOS.NH.GOV.
