Driver Seriously Injured After Single-Vehicle Crash On Route 101

Troop A

RAYMOND, N.H. – One person was left with life-threatening injuries following an early morning crash on Route 101.

At 3:28 a.m. today, June 23, State Troopers assigned to the Troop A Barracks responded to Route 101 eastbound in Raymond after receiving a report of a vehicle off the road. When they arrived, Troopers found a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee several hundred feet off the road in a wooded area between the Exit 5 offramp and Route 101. Troopers were able to get to Jeep, where they found the driver and lone occupant had been partially thrown from the vehicle and was seriously injured. Troopers rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived and began assessing and treating the driver of the Jeep. Troopers and firefighters also then conducted an extensive search of the area to confirm that no other passengers were present in the Jeep at the time of the crash.

The preliminary investigation at the scene indicated the driver of the Jeep, identified as Alex J. Sitton, 34, of Candia, had been traveling on the Exit 5 offramp along Route 101 eastbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, Sitton lost control of the Jeep, resulting in the vehicle departing the left side of the road and entering a wooded area. The vehicle struck several trees and overturned before ultimately coming to rest on its roof.

Sitton was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

While Troopers investigated the scene and emergency personnel conducted an extensive effort to remove the involved Jeep, along with a significant amount of debris, the Exit 5 offramp along Route 101 eastbound was closed for approximately four and a half hours. The offramp was reopened to traffic at 7:59 a.m. Multiple agencies assisted the New Hampshire State Police at the scene, including the Raymond Police Department, the Raymond Fire Department, the Epping Fire Department, paramedics with Exeter Hospital’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) Unit, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and New England Truck Center.

All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Trooper Clark Brighton at Clark.A.Brighton@DOS.NH.GOV
