Driver Taken By Medical Helicopter After I-93 Crash
Troop B
SALEM, N.H. – One person suffered life-threatening injuries during a crash on Interstate 93 south in Salem.
At approximately 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, State Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks responded to the area of mile marker 1.4 for a report of a crash involving serious injuries. When they arrived, Troopers found a vehicle that had left the road and was split in half after striking several trees.
The preliminary on-scene investigation, along with witness statements, indicates a white 2016 Lexus IS-300, driven by Fredi Lopez De Leon, 22, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was traveling north at a high rate of speed when it left the road and traveled toward the tree line. Crews from the Salem Fire Department also responded and extracted Lopez De Leon from the vehicle before rushing him to the Salem High School field complex, where he was taken by medical helicopter to Boston with life-threatening injuries.
Troop B was assisted at the scene by members of the Salem Police Department, Salem Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. A travel lane was closed for approximately two hours while the scene was processed.
All aspects of the crash remain under investigation. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Trooper Matthew Howe at (603) 451-9588.
