Emergency Landing At Concord Airport
Troop D
CONCORD, N.H. – A pilot was uninjured following an emergency landing at Concord Municipal Airport.
Shortly before 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, State Troopers assigned to the Troop D barracks were dispatched to the airport for the report of an aircraft crash. When Troopers arrived, they found a two-seater experimental light-sport aircraft in a grassy area near a fence along Regional Drive. Members of the Concord Fire Department had also already arrived on the scene and were evaluating the pilot of the aircraft.
Based on information obtained in the preliminary investigation, shortly after takeoff, one of the plane’s doors opened and the pilot was unable to close it. Due to the open door, the pilot reported the aerodynamics of the plane were compromised and forced the plane into a perpetual left turn. However, the pilot was able to fly the plane over the airfield and eventually made an emergency landing in a grassy area north of a taxiway. The aircraft’s landing gear was damaged during the landing.
The pilot and only occupant, identified as Dana Clow, 71, of Hillsborough, was not hurt.
The New Hampshire State Police conducted the initial investigation to gather information for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics and the Federal Aviation Administration, who will be assuming the investigation.
