Fatal Boating Crash on Crescent Lake
WOLFEBORO, New Hampshire – On Sunday, August 6, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol received a call for a serious boating crash on Crescent Lake in Wolfeboro. Upon arrival, officers found two personal watercrafts (PWC) at the ramp, one with significant damage.
Officers learned that the PWCs were being operated in the northern end of the lake near the channel to Lake Wentworth. It is suspected that the lead vessel slowed down and the second PWC collided with it from behind. Immediately after the crash, good Samaritans took the injured PWC operator aboard their boat, began CPR, and transported the teen to the boat ramp where they were met by emergency responders. Once at shore, Wolfeboro Police and Fire Departments continued CPR efforts. The teen was transported to Huggins Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The second operator was not injured and neither PWC had passengers.
Both teenage operators are from New York state. The investigation is ongoing; however, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional details is asked to contact New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol Sergeant Seth Alie at (603) 227-2117 or Seth.P.Alie@dos.nh.gov.
