Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash, Troute 123, Walpole, NH

On May 7, 2020 at approximately 3:25 PM, troopers from the Troop C Barracks responded to assist Walpole Police Department with a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a UPS delivery truck. The crash occurred on Rte. 123 (Whitcomb Road) near the intersection of Upper Valley Road.

The motorcycle, a 2001 Harley Davidson FXSTD, was operated by Alexander Wrobel, age 34, of Marlborough, NH.

A passenger on the back of motorcycle was identified as Jennifer Washburn, Age 23, of Keene, NH. The UPS truck, a 2010 Freightliner Van, was operated by Gary LeYesque. Age 61 of Marlow. NH.

Based upon the initial investigation, Levesque had just pulled out of a driveway and turned to head south on Route 123 as Wrobel was coming north bound on Route 123 and lost control of the motorcycle, crossed the yellow centerline and crashed into the Freightliner Van. Wrobel sustained minor injuries and was taken to Cheshire Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Washburn was pronounced deceased on scene.

Levesque was not injured. Due to the seriousness of the crash, Walpole Police Department requested that the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit respond.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit was assisted on scene by Walpole Police Department and Troopers from the Troop C Barracks as well as Walpole Fire/EMS and Alstead Police Department. Due to the collision, Route 123 in the area of Upper Valley Road was closed for approximately 5 hours.

At this time, speed appears to be a factor but all aspects remain under investigation.
