Fugitive From Justice Wanted For Vermont Police-Involved Shooting Taken Into Custody

LEBANON, N.H. – A man wanted in connection to a Trooper-involved shooting in Vermont and firearms charges in Rhode Island has been taken into custody by the New Hampshire State Police.

On Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, State Troopers arrested Brenden Sackal, 30, of Rockville, Rhode Island, on a fugitive from justice warrant.

Sackal has been receiving medical care at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon following a shooting involving members of the Vermont State Police on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in Burke, Vermont. After receiving medical clearance on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, Sackal was transported to the Grafton County Jail.

The fugitive from justice warrant issued for Sackal was based on various charges in Vermont stemming from the July 14 incident, including multiple counts of attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment, possession of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, gross negligent operation, and attempting to elude law enforcement.

Sackal is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2024 at Haverhill District Court.
