Motor Vehicle Collision, Route 1 Bypass, Portsmouth
On Thursday January 2, 2020 at approximately 12:49 pm, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop A Barracks responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a Portsmouth Police cruiser at the intersection of the Route 1 Bypass northbound and Greenleaf Avenue, in Portsmouth, NH.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 Ford Explorer (Police Interceptor) being driven by Officer Thompson Potter, age 39, was traveling north on the Route 1 Bypass, when the cruiser collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado being driven eastbound by Patrick Kalil, age 36. At the time of the collision, Officer Potter was responding with emergency lights and siren to a reported disorderly conduct / road rage incident.
As a result of this collision, Officer Potter received minor injuries and was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Mr. Kalil reported no injuries at the time of the crash.
Traffic continued to flow through the area, and was minimally impacted by the crash.
Assisting on scene were members of the Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire & Rescue, and National Wrecker Service.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police, Troop A.
