photo showing damaged 2002 Dodge Ram pickupOn Saturday, October 19, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop-A barracks responded to Interstate 95 North in the Town of Hampton for a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Troopers located a 2002 Dodge Ram pickup that had driven head-on into the guardrail and concrete barrier dividing the open road toll lanes from the Hampton Toll Plaza. The vehicle's driver and lone occupant, identified as, Trenton WENDELL, age 48, of Rochester, NH was found to be entrapped and unresponsive within the vehicle. The Hampton Fire Department was able to quickly free WENDELL and he was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Initial on-scene investigation revealed that WENDELL was traveling north and appeared to be entering the open road toll, when for an unknown reason, a last second lane change occurred which resulted in him striking the barrier.

A portion of Interstate 95 North in the vicinity of Exit 2 was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while this crash was investigated and the vehicle was removed from the roadway.

New Hampshire State Police Troop-A was assisted at the scene by the Hampton Police Department, Hampton Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

This remains an active investigation, and anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact Tr. Peter Sankowich of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A Barracks at (603) 223-8490 or Peter.Sankowich@dos.nh.gov.
