Motor Vehicle Crash - Interstate 93 South, Salem

On August 20th, 2021 at approximately 6:01 AM, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks, Salem Police, and the Salem Fire Department responded to the report of a 3 car accident with entrapment, on Interstate 93 South, just before Exit 1.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a 2018 Chevy Silverado had lost control, and went into a spin across several lanes of travel. A 2021 Chevy 4500 Box Truck, traveling in the right lane, struck the Silverado as it spun in its path. The collision forced the Pick up over the guardrail and off the roadway to the right. The third vehicle, a 2021 Ford Transit Connect Van, collided with the box truck, and both vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder, tangled together.

The operator of the Ford Van was uninjured during the crash. The operator of the Box Truck was entrapped within the cab of the vehicle, and was identified as:

Warren Osterman, Age 54
Haverhill, MA

As a result of the crash, he was extricated by Fire and Medical personnel and transported to Lawrence General Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The operator of the Silverado Pick-Up Truck, was uninjured in the crash and was identified as:

Daniel Kingsley, Age 26
Derry, NH

Kingsley appeared to be changing lanes at a speed too fast for the weather conditions and was unable to control his vehicle, causing a spinout. Kingsley was arrested for Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, which was the causal factor of the crash.

State Police and the Department of Safety shut down two travel lanes on I-93 South for approximately 1 hour while emergency personnel worked the scene and tow trucks removed all three vehicles.

All aspects remain under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Trooper T. Repucci at Timothy.R.Repucci@dos.nh.gov or 603-223-8836.
