Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Police Cruiser
HAMPTON, New Hampshire – On July 23, 2023, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Troop A Barracks responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a Hampton Police Department cruiser and a pedestrian on Ashworth Avenue near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Nudd Avenue in the Town of Hampton. At the request of the Hampton Police Department, Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit were also requested and subsequently responded to the scene to assume lead in the crash investigation.
As a result of the crash, the police officer operating the cruiser did not sustain any apparent injuries. However, the pedestrian sustained injuries, the extent of which remain unknown, and was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital. The identities of the police officer operating the cruiser and the pedestrian are being withheld as the investigation remains active and ongoing at this time. No further information pertaining to the incident is available at this time.
While Troopers investigated the scene, a portion of Ocean Boulevard was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Highland Avenue to Nudd Avenue and a portion of Ashworth Avenue was closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Nudd Avenue to an area a short distance north of Island Path for approximately three hours. Eventually, these portions of Ocean Boulevard and Ashworth Avenue were fully reopened to traffic at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Assisting Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at the scene of this crash were Troopers and Detectives from New Hampshire State Police Troop A Barracks, Troopers from the New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit, the Hampton Fire Department, and Dana’s Towing and Repair.
All aspects of this crash remain under investigation by Trooper Tyler Dodds of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit.
