On April 5, 2022, at approximately 3:50 pm, troopers from the New Hampshire State Police-Troop C responded to a report of a hazardous operator traveling on Rte. 9 in Roxbury. Initial information was that the vehicle was having difficulty maintaining lane control. It was then reported that the vehicle may have been involved in a crash on Sullivan Road near Rte. 9 in Keene. The complainant advised that the vehicle was smoking and appeared to have lost a tire. Troopers began to search the area, and at approximately 1612 hours, received a new report that the vehicle was now on Rte. 9 in Stoddard turning onto Rte. 123 North. Several minutes later, the vehicle struck the rear-end of a school bus on Rte. 123 near the Stoddard Fire Department. Upon arrival, troopers determined that the vehicle was a 2018 Cadillac XTS, driven by Steven M. LaCroix, Age 61, Stoddard, NH.

There were no injuries as a result of the crash. The school bus sustained minimal damage and had 18 students on board at the time of the collision.

Troopers arrested Mr. LaCroix on scene, charging him with Aggravated DUI, Conduct After an Accident, Negligent Operation, and Open Container in a Motor Vehicle. LaCroix was released on personal recognizance bail and will be arraigned in Keene District Court on April 13, 2022.

The State Police were assisted at the scene by New Hampshire Fish and Game, the Stoddard Fire Department, and the DiLuzio Ambulance Service.

This crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Trooper James Lamoureux via Troop C dispatch at (603) 223-8494, or by email at James.D.Lamoureux@dos.nh.gov.
