Motor Vehicle Pursuit

Hill, New Hampshire – On March 11, 2023, at approximately 4:17 PM, a Trooper of the New Hampshire State Police Troop D Barracks was monitoring traffic on Route 3A in Hill, NH when a vehicle passed her location traveling at 82 MPH in a posted 50 MPH zone. The Trooper activated her emergency lights in attempt to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle stopped in the roadway, in front of the Trooper, did a 'burnout' across the width of the roadway and then accelerated away from the Trooper. The vehicle was identified as a 1985 Chevrolet K10 pick-up truck. The Trooper continued behind the truck with their emergency lights and siren activated and the vehicle refused to stop.

A motor vehicle pursuit ensued on multiple roads throughout Hill. The pursuit ended after the vehicle drove into a snowbank on Old Town Road in the Town of Hill. The male driver fled from the vehicle and after a brief foot pursuit was taken into custody at the scene. A male passenger was detained at the scene.

The driver was identified as John Carter, Age: 36, Hill, NH.

Carter is being charged with:

  • Operating after Certification as Habitual Offender
  • Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of a Controlled Drug
  • Deal/Possession of Prescription Drugs
  • Resisting Arrest/Detention
  • Reckless Operation
  • Disobeying a Police Officer
  • Unregistered Vehicle

Carter was transported to Merrimack County Jail where he was held on his charges pending his Merrimack Superior Court arraignment on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM.
