Motorcycle Crash Ends With Arrest

Northwood – On May 29, 2023, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Strafford Police Department attempted to stop a 2003 Honda motorcycle traveling through their town, that was observed driving recklessly. The motorcycle continued at a high rate of speed through Strafford until it crossed into the town of Northwood and proceeded down Bow Lake Road towards Route 4. As this occurred, the Northwood Police Department had ceased vehicular traffic along Route 4, as a Memorial Day Parade was concluding. The Strafford Police Department terminated their pursuit due to dangerousness, although the reckless driver was last observed turning westerly onto Route 4 at a high rate of speed, without any officers in pursuit.

While Northwood Police officers remained along Route 4, in position for the safety of the parade, one Northwood Officer was able to hear the motorcycle accelerating towards them. In response, the Officer stepped into the westbound lane of travel, in an effort to signal for the motorcycle operator to stop. Rather than yielding, the motorcycle continued ahead and collided with the Northwood Officer. The Officer was knocked to the ground and the motorcycle came to a rest on its side.

The driver, 21-year-old Logan Goodwin of Rochester, New Hampshire, suffered only minor abrasions and was medically cleared at the scene of the crash. The Officer did suffer serious injuries and was transported to the Concord Hospital for medical treatment. At the time of this release, the Officer was listed to be in "stable condition." Due to the severity of the incident, Northwood Police requested assistance from the New Hampshire State Police. Members of Troop A responded, along with the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit. Also assisting were members of the Northwood Police Department, Strafford Police Department, and the Northwood Fire Department. A portion of the westbound travel lane remained closed for several hours while the scene was processed by investigators.

Shortly after the crash, Goodwin was arrested by the Strafford Police Department on charges of Reckless Conduct (B Felony), Disobeying a Police Officer, and Operating without a Motorcycle License. He is held at the Strafford County House of Corrections until his arraignment on May 30, 2023, at 12:30 p.m., in the Strafford County Superior Court. Due to the actual crash taking place in Northwood, Goodwin is also charged out of the Rockingham County Superior Court. For that sequence of events, Goodwin is charged with 2nd Degree Assault (B Felony), and Reckless Conduct (B Felony). His scheduled arraignment for the second set of charges is set for May 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.

All aspects of this case remain under investigation. If you witnessed the crash, or have any information regarding any of these events, please contact Sergeant Brian Ross at Brian.J.Ross@dos.nh.gov or (603) 931-2738.
