Boating Crash

Joint Investigation with Pelham Police Department

pelham police and marine patrol logosPelham, New Hampshire – On Sunday, July 24, 2022 at approximately 3:07 PM, Pelham Police Department received a 911 call for a boating crash involving a boat and a personal watercraft (PWC) on Long Pond. Pelham Police and Fire Responded to the scene and rendered lifesaving first aid to two victims of the crash who were riding on the PWC. One victim was transported to a local Massachusetts hospital and the other was med-flighted to another Massachusetts hospital.

New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol was notified and responded to Long Pond to assist in the investigation. A joint investigation between New Hampshire Marine Patrol and Pelham Police department revealed that the PWC was operated by a female who had another female passenger on board. The PWC was operating at a high rate of speed and struck a boat that was floating, with the engine off, with four occupants on board. Three of the passengers were able to jump off the boat just prior to being struck. No one on the boat that was struck sustained serious injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol and the Pelham Police Department. Other agencies that assisted with the investigation include Dracut Massachusetts Police Department, Salem NH Police Department and Hudson Police Department.

Ivonne Pena booking photoOn Monday, November 28, 2022, the Boston Police Department arrested the operator of the PWC that was involved in the July 24, 2022 boat crash that occurred on Long Pond in Pelham.

The operator is identified as Ivonne Pena, age 31, of Boston, MA. Pena was held as a fugitive from justice in Massachusetts pending rendition back to New Hampshire.

Pena was transported back to New Hampshire by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and the New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol on December 1, 2022. Pena was arraigned on December 2, 2022 by the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office.

Charges: Reckless Conduct Felony B and Aggravated Boating While Intoxicated Felony B.
