Pursuit Of Stolen Vehicle Ends With Arrest In Winchester
Troop C
WINCHESTER, N.H. – A driver was taken into custody after a pursuit involving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
At 3:53 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, State Troopers assigned to Troop C barracks noticed a 2023 Kia Forte on Route 10 in Swanzey that had been reported as stolen to the Winchester Police Department earlier that day. Troopers attempted to stop the Kia near Whittemore Farm Road, but the driver did not stop.
A pursuit started and continued south on Route 10. Officers with the Winchester Police Department responded and successfully used a tire deflation device in an effort to safely end the pursuit. The device slowed the car before officers were able to deploy a second tire deflation device, as the pursuit continued into Winchester. The vehicle was eventually no longer able to continue.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Demetrius Dargan, 33, of Winchester, was arrested and is facing felony charges of receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of propelled vehicle, reckless conduct and operating as a habitual offender, as well as misdemeanors charges of disobeying an officer and reckless conduct.
The New Hampshire State Police is continuing to investigate the pursuit with the assistance of the Winchester Police Department and additional charges are possible. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Trooper James Lamoureux at (603) 223-3782 or James.D.Lamoureux@dos.nh.gov.
