Water Rescue on Lake Winnipesaukee
GILFORD, New Hampshire – On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol Officer pulled a woman from the waters of Lake Winnipesaukee in the town of Gilford.
Marine Patrol Supervisor David Jones, who is assigned to Lake Winnipesaukee, was coming off the water after an evening patrol. While coming into the Gilford docks of Marine Patrol Headquarters, he heard a commotion nearby and immediately responded.
Upon arrival at the docks, Supervisor Jones spotted a female in the water with several other bystanders nearby. The woman had fallen into the water from her boat while at the Gilford town docks. Upon noticing what had happened, Supervisor Jones asked for a medical response. Due to the depth of the water and being on the side of the docks, the woman was unable to get back onto her boat or the docks. Supervisor Jones was able to immediately assist the 83-year-old female out of the water to safety along with the help of other bystanders. Gilford Fire and Rescue responded to the scene for an evaluation. There were no injuries.
Marine Patrol was also assisted at the scene by the Gilford Police Department.
