Wrong-Way Driver Apprehended
Londonderry, New Hampshire – On December 8, 2022 at approximately 12:15 AM, New Hampshire State Police received multiple reports of silver sedan traveling the wrong way on Interstate 93 from the state line. The initial reports received indicated that a vehicle was approaching the New Hampshire state line from Massachusetts traveling northbound in the southbound lane.
As Troopers made their way southbound to intercept this vehicle, Trooper Podell was working a construction detail in Manchester. Trooper Podell was able to deploy stop sticks, while other Troopers conducted a rolling roadblock with the Manchester Police Department to shield oncoming traffic. The stop stick deployment was successful; the wrong way vehicle continued a short distance before coming to a stop in the left breakdown lane at mile marker 16.8.
The driver was identified as Virginia Scarponi, age 26, of Methuen, MA. Scarponi was arrested by Troopers and is facing charges of Reckless Conduct, Driving while Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.
