Wrong Way Driver I-89
On 10/25/2020 at approximately 12:42 A.M. NH State Police Troop D received reports of a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 89 in Hopkinton, NH. The vehicle was reported to be driving southbound in the northbound lanes. Troopers responded to the area immediately and were able to locate the vehicle near Exit 5. Troopers set up a rolling roadblock in order to prevent northbound traffic to continue into the path of the wrong way driver. Trooper Kenneth McGrath was able to deploy stop sticks and successfully deflated both tires on the driver's side of the vehicle. However, the vehicle failed to stop and continued southbound. Other Troopers converged quickly towards the vehicle and were able to stop the vehicle at mile marker 4.2. The operator of the vehicle was identified as: Robert McCullen of Lebanon, NH, Age: 26.
McCullen was arrested and charged with DUI, disobeying a police officer and felony reckless conduct. He will be arraigned at a later date at the Merrimack Superior Court.
